Blepharoplasty (Upper/ Lower Eyelids) is surgical modification of the eyelid. Excess tissue such as skin and fat are removed or repositioned, and surrounding muscles and tendons may be reinforced. It can be both a functional and cosmetic surgery.

Blepharoplasty is often done as an elective surgery for cosmetic reasons. Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is almost always done for cosmetic reasons, to improve puffy lower eyelid “bags” and reduce the wrinkling of skin.

Blepharoplasty is sometimes needed for functional reasons. When an advanced amount of upper eyelid skin is present, the skin may protrude over the eyelashes and causes a loss of peripheral vision. The outer and upper parts of the visual field are most commonly affected and the condition may cause difficulty with activities such as driving or reading. In this circumstance, upper eyelid blepharoplasty is performed to improve peripheral vision.

FAQs for Blepharoplasty

What are the benefits of eyelid surgery?

Blepharoplasty can dramatically reduce the appearance of under-eye bags and saggy eyelids. The area surrounding the eyes can sometimes develop a tired, droopy look, which can be corrected with eyelid surgery. Plus, the procedure can also help with vision problems caused by drooping eyelids.

Will Belpharoplasty correct my crow’s feet?

When performed by itself, blepharoplasty will not correct crow’s feet. However, eyelid surgery is often performed in conjunction with other treatments such as dermal fillers to eliminate crow’s feet and other types of wrinkles.

What causes dark circles under the eyes?

The skin of the eyelid is the thinnest on the human body. The darkness that can appear under the eyes is typically caused by blood circulation underneath the skin. This condition can be exacerbated by exhaustion, illness, poor nutrition, irritation, and other factors.

How long will eyelid surgery results last?

Eyelid surgery is known to have long-lasting, even permanent results; however, it will not stop the natural aging process. Many eyelid surgery patients experience a dramatic improvement in the appearance of their eyes, such as a more youthful aesthetic, which lasts for years. In some cases, blepharoplasty can even improve vision.

Will there be scarring ?

Scars are common result of any surgical procedure. The incisions made to accomplish the goals of the procedure are barely visible after several months as they are placed within the normal creases and folds of the upper and lower eyelids. In-patients who only need removal of fat from the lower eyelids, the incision can be made on the inside of the eyelid, and will therefore result in an invisible scar.

How long is the recovery?

Patients can typically return to their normal daily routines about seven to ten days following the blepharoplasty procedure. During recovery, the patient must keep his or her head elevated for the first few days. Medication can help with any pain or soreness. Within a week after the eyelid surgery, the stitches are removed.

What type of surgeon should perform my procedure?

The ideal type of physician for blepharoplasty is an ophthalmic plastic surgeon. This type of doctor is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is specially trained in plastic surgery of the eyes and surrounding structures of the face. General cosmetic surgeons do not undergo such specialized training in plastic surgery of the eyes.

What are the goals of blepharoplasty?

A properly performed blepharoplasty procedure will brighten the face and restore a more youthful appearance. In some patients the procedure will improve vision by removing the excessive skin of the upper eyelids which can hang down and interfere with peripheral vision.

I do not live in Thailand, do I have to come one trip for a consultation and make another trip for the surgery or can I do upper and lower eyelid surgery on the day of consultation or the next day maybe?? Because making 2 separate trips to Bangkok will be difficult for me to arrange.

All surgeries here can make in one trip for consultation and surgery in the next day. You don’t have to make two separate trip to Bangkok.

How Thailand Became a Global Gender-Change Destination

October 27, 2015 By: Jason Gale (Bloomberg) Preecha, who performed Thailand’s first gender surgery in 1975, attributes the country’s popularity for the procedure to three things: “No. 1, it’s very cheap in Thailand,” he says. “No. 2, good result, and No. 3, good hospitality — they can have a side trip for tourism.” Read full […]
