Rhinoplasty

Variables that influence the decisions involved in the procedure such as length nose bridge and symmetry degree of projection desired and realistically can accomplish. You should prepare at least three (3) sample nose shapes, printed colors and hand on during direct consultation for the surgeon to better understand about your expectations. Preparation for Nose augmentation (Rhinoplasty)

• Stop smoking
• Take meals as normal
• Blood pressure should be taken
• Avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements as they can increase bleeding
• Your plastic surgeon will also discuss during direct consultation

Things should bring from home (oversea patients).

• Button-up shirts in large sizes
• Slip-on shoes or slippers
• Phone charger, long phone charger
• Books, magazines
• Travel neck pillow
• Personal medicine

To organize trip for Rhinoplasty.

• Day 1 - Consultation and/or surgery at the same time
• Day 2 - Surgery (if require for the next appointment)
• Day 3 to day 5 - Recovery, rests, less reading and watching TV, computer
• Day 5 - Departure date

Surgical Rhinoplasty.

Most rhinoplasty procedures on Asian patients use customize implant to heighten the low dorsum. Caucasians may have thinner skin tissue/minor of dorsum which requires small amounts of ear cartilage. Although, quantities of cartilage may base on autogenously tissue base procedures are limited.

Closed Rhinoplasty (Closed Rhinoplasty), an incision is made in the upper nostril where material or tissue is inserted under the nostril to hide the scar. It may open one nostril or both. With ear cartilage/silicone implant is to increase the length of the tip of the nose, decorate the tip into a polyp like a drop of water. All must finalize by your surgeon during direct consultation.

Most rhinoplasty (nose augmentation) can be operated under local anesthesia.

Length of time for nose augmentation surgery takes about an hour. 

Post operative Rhinoplasty recovery.

• Use a Q-tip dipped with sterile water to first gently clean the sutures for a week until follow up visit on appointment date.
• Dry clean with Q-tip. Avoid any pressure on the nose. This also includes no eyeglasses and no sunglasses until cleared by your surgeon.
• Sleep with the head elevated 20-30 degrees to avoid accidentally turning over on your nose.
• A slight amount of bleeding and/or oozing is normal during the first 2-3 days.
• Do NOT blow your nose. If you sneeze, open your mouth to divert the airflow away from the nose.
• Begin taking the medication as directed.
• Refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages and eating very salty, spicy food and fermentation for about 2 weeks.
• Do not lie on your side for 2 weeks to prevent tilting of the nasal axis.

• Rhinoplasty - nose implant has a relatively low chance of infection, less than 1%, depending on the care of the individual incision during the first 2 - 3 weeks.
• The nose is tilted or swollen or bruise during 3- 5 days.
• Swelling (Edema) in the first 2 weeks, the swelling is quite noticeable for 1 - 2 weeks. After that, the swelling will gradually decrease. The shape of the nose will gradually change over a period of 2 - 6 months.
• Wounds and abnormal bleeding may occur in some people during 3 - 7 days.

Follow up appointment by surgeon will be appointed after surgery and mostly within 7 days to 30 days.

Post operation recovery tips for rhinoplasty.

• Ice pack gel - Using a flexible ice pack gel or cooling pad to reduce the swelling to reduce alleviate pressure and puffiness around the treated area within the first few days after surgery. Cold from ice pack gel will restrict blood flow to the area and reduce swelling more quickly. 
• Rest for more recovery - Avoiding sports or activities to prevent any stress at least three weeks during the healing process.
• Take a bath - Take a bath instead of a shower before bandages removal.
• Drink more water
• Avoid blowing nose - Wiping or dabbing your nose if there is drainage is fine as long as it is delicate.
• Follow up by routine appointments are most important. 

Recovery Timeline by Rhinoplasty.

• The surgeon prescribes painkillers and medical treatments to manage any pain in the first few days.  Most patients return to work and normal activities at that point after 3 - 7 days (desk jobs).
• During one to three weeks, there may still some bruising and swelling and new shape of nose implant may look overly prominent.
• Full recovery should be complete for rhinoplasty usually take about three to six month but you are advise to avoid contact sports for one month to protect new nose augmentation.
• Wearing contact lenses, eye glasses and sun glasses are prohibited until nose augmentation completed cure. You will be advised by surgeon when it is safe wearing them again.

For international patient - Please plan to be in Bangkok at least 5 days. You may resume to work within a few days but must avoid heavy lifting object over the head or fast movement during 4 weeks after surgery date.

◊ Any bruising and swelling will usually dissipate within 2 months after rhinoplasty.
