Preparation before surgery.

• Inform us about any allergies, any serious medical condition(s), and all medications you are 
  taking (both prescription and non-prescription). 
• Prepare question(s) for surgeon.
• No Aspirin 2 days before surgery.
• Stop vitamin E Oil 1 day before surgery.
• Stop smoking 2 days and a month after surgery.
• Tell doctor if you have any serious medical condition(s). 
• Surgeon will conduct a routine age, family history, and health exams
• Surgeon will discuss other variables that influence the decision involved in the procedure
• Surgeon will explain the specific details, technique to be used, where the operation will be performed and what realistically can accomplish
• Stop meal and water starting from midnight before surgery.
• Plan to be in Thailand at least 10 days after surgery.

There are several jaw reduction techniques available - by surgical and non-surgical. Ideally prior to selection of a treatment, you will examined to determine whether the cause is due to the bone, the masseter or both. Additionally, if a treatable cause is present it should be identified.

Jaw contouring surgical techniques are used to directly reduce the size of an enlarged mandible. Incision can be to the inside or outside of the mouth, though the internal incision is the most common because it leaves no visible scar

Non-surgical techniques are essentially limited to cases in which the masseter is enlarged. A convenient method to treat an enlarged muscle is through the use of Botox injections.  Botox is injected into the enlarged muscle, weakening it so it slowly becomes smaller through atrophy over several months.

After Jaw Contouring surgery there are some numbness and temporary discomfort may persist around the incision for several days. But this can be controlled with pain medication. The bruising and swelling that does occur will usually subside considerably in the first week.

Bandages will come off a day or two after Jaw Contouring surgery. Stitches from the surgery are removed during the 5 -7 days, though this varies from patient to patient.

Normal work can be resumed 10 days (desk job) after a Jaw Contouring procedure. You should be able to shower and wash your hair a few days after the bandages come off. However, vigorous activity should be limited for several weeks, including jogging, bending, sex, or any activity that increases your blood pressure.

Most of the visible signs of Jaw Contouring surgery should disappear within couple months. Minor swelling or bruising can usually be hidden within a few weeks. Do not worry if you feel a bit tired and let down at first as your body heals itself and you begin to look better.

Most persons are usually very satisfied with their new look once their surgery site has completely healed. Patients often do not realize just how much their reduction contributed to an older appearance until they see their new refreshed look.

Recovery time following Jaw Contouring is about 2 - 3 weeks (desk job). Patients are allowed to go about their regular routines in a week, which mean minimal impact day-to-day life.

Normal appearance close to the final may take up to one to two months after surgery. For fully recovery close to natural result may seen around three months after surgery or when residual swelling has gone.

SURGERY SCHEDULE

• Day 1 - Consultation and Prepare for Laboratory Testing
• Day 2 and 3 - Surgery and one night in hospital private room after surgery
• Day 3 - Discharge from Hospital
• Day 3 to Day 12 - Stay in hotel for recovery period and follow up on doctor appointments
• Day 12 - Stitches removal and final check up (Five-ten days following surgery)
• Day 12 - Safe to fly

For local’s patient - You may resume to work after ten days surgery but must avoid heavy lifting object over the head or fast movement during four weeks after surgery date. Stitches are remove five to seven days after surgery date.

For international patient - Please plan to be in Bangkok at least twelve days all together. Stitches will remove five to seven days after surgery date and after departure from Thailand, you may resume to work within a few days but must avoid heavy lifting object over the head or fast movement during four weeks after surgery date.

◊ Any bruising and swelling will usually dissipate within 2 to 3 months after jaw contouring surgery.
