For trans men (FtM), who wish to remove hysterectomy the objective is to reduce level of primary estrogen to maximize masculinization from testosterone.
Female to Male surgery are generally divided into three main procedures. Within these three mains procedures, each procedure that will be further described.
–Chest reconstruction surgery trans men also referred to Top surgery.
–Hysterectomy and Ovary Removal (removal of the uterus and ovaries). Total Abdominal Hysterectomy (TAH) and Bilateral Salpingo Oophorectomy (BSO).
-Bottom surgery metoidioplasty (also referred to Genital Reconstruction Surgeries ” (Female to Male).
Hysterectomy and Ovary Removal (bilateral salpingo – oophorectomy), the object is to reduce level of primary estrogen and maximize masculinization from testosterone. Therefore, hysterectomy and ovary removal is a step completion in transition. Some trans men may not bothered having a uterus, others find its presence to be an acute source of gender dysphoria and hysterectomy can help align internal anatomy with external identity.
For those who wish to undergo mastectomy or metoidioplasty. Hysterectomy and ovary removal do not required for patient who plan to have genital reconstructive surgery. But if metoidioplasty + closed vagina, this is required to remove hysterectomy and ovaries.
Method for hysterectomy + ovary removal surgery is by open technique or laparoscopic. Many factors should be taken into consideration when choosing which technique is best. It is important that you are realistic about what reconstructive surgery and treatments can and cannot do.
