Alar reduction, Alar base reduction, Alarplasty is aim to build an aesthetically pleasing trim the wide flaring and large open nasal.

Alar reduction surgery is very common among Asians, European, American, African and Caucasians to correct a wide flaring nostril. The aim is to build an aesthetically pleasing trim the wide flaring and large open nasal. This may be done alone or combination with Nose Augmentation (Rhinoplasty). The purpose of the procedure is to narrow the width of the nostril base, which decreases the size and flaring of the nostrils.

surgical details:

  • Inform us about any allergies, any serious medical condition(s), and all medications you are taking (both prescription and non-prescription).
  • No Aspirin 1 day before surgery.
  • Stop vitamin E Oil 1 day before surgery.
  • Stop smoking 2 days and a month after surgery.
  • Tell doctor if you have any serious medical condition(s).
  • Plan to be in Thailand 2-3 days after surgery.
  • Ice cubes or ice pack ; On the day before your Alar reduction, make sure that you have the following items stocked at home
  • Cosmetics should not be worn
  • The surgeon will explain the specific details of your case such as the technique that will be used, anesthesia, where the operation will be performed, dissolve stitches and realistically can accomplish. Risks and cost be discuss with the surgeon at this time.

 

It is important that you are realistic about what cosmetic surgery and treatments can and cannot do. Your doctor is in the best position to address these issues and for that reason frank and open dialogue is recommended to avoid any misunderstanding.

After evaluating, the surgeon plans operation and determines incisions will be hidden inside the nose. During the surgery, small incisions are made some specific amount of tissue on both sides are removed to tighten the span of wide nostril. The incision is sutured (dissolve stitches) to finish the procedure.

The shape and position of the incisions are carefully planned so that the resulting scars are practically invisible after healing.

You will receive instruction for during the home care. Patients are recommended to keep their head higher than the body while sleeping as this will accelerate the recovery process.

After your alar reduction surgery, you will experience nasal swelling, congestion and pain which can be managed by cold compress, pain medications prescribed by the surgeon. You should also avoid rubbing your nose, blowing your nose, bending over or lifting heavy things for at least one week.

Small scars are usually well hidden and normally fade in time. However, alarplasty may leave you with two small tiny line scars. But will completely normal and which disappear in few month. For full recovery and natural refine, it may take after 3 month.

After your alar reduction surgery.

  • You will experience nasal swelling, congestion and pain which can be managed by cold compress, pain medications prescribed by the surgeon.
