Blepharoplasty is well known for upper eyelids and lower eyelids surgery to remove wrinkle, saggy, excess skins and fat deposit to fresh up with tighten up eyelids. Another term of blepharoplasty is also known as double eyelid surgery.

When an advanced amount of upper eyelid skin is present, the skin may protrude over the eyelashes and causes a loss of peripheral vision. The outer and upper parts of the visual field are most commonly affected and the condition may cause difficulty with activities such as driving or reading. In this circumstance, upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty is performed to refresh eyelid and improve peripheral vision.

Blepharoplasty is often done as an elective surgery for cosmetic reasons. Upper eyelids or Lower eyelids is a surgical to modification of the eyelid. The procedure is to removed excess tissue such as skin and fat deposit to reposition surrounding muscles and tendons may be reinforced. These can be both functional with cosmetic surgery. Upper and Lower eyelid blepharoplasty are usually done for cosmetic reasons under local anesthesia to remove puffy, wrinkle from upper eyelid or lower eyelid “eye bag removal”.

To be preparation Upper & Lower eyelids

  • Inform us about any allergies, any serious medical condition(s), and all medications you are
    taking (both prescription and non-prescription)
  • No Aspirin 2 days before surgery
  • Stop vitamin E Oil 1 day before surgery
  • Stop smoking 2 days and a month after surgery
  • Tell doctor if you have any serious medical condition(s)
  • Stitches are remove five days after surgery date
  • Plan to be in Thailand at least 6 days after surgery

On the day before your eyelid surgery make sure that you have items stocked at home such as ice cubes or ice pack

Make sure to shower and shampoo before the procedure and to wash your eyebrows. Cosmetics should not be worn. Also, be sure that you have arranged for someone to take you to and from the clinic where your blepharoplasty will be performed.

Usually takes about 60 - 80 minutes and performed at the Preecha Aesthetic Institute under Local Anesthesia (day surgery)

The procedure is to removed excess tissue such as skin and fat or reposition surrounding muscles and tendons may be reinforced. It can be both a functional and cosmetic surgery.

Upper and Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is usually done for cosmetic reasons to improve puffy upper / lower eyelid “bags” and reduce the wrinkling of skin.

The recovery process after a blepharoplasty may take up to a few weeks. Patients will receive instruction for during the home care. The first two days doctor recommend keeping iced eye pack on the eyes to reduce bruising and swelling. Patients are recommended to keep their head higher than the body while sleeping as this will accelerate the recovery process.

The third day after surgery, patients are advised to keep lukewarm eye pads for comfort and wearing dark glasses for at least one week is also recommended to prevent irritation that may be caused by the wind and sun exposure.

Wearing contact lenses is prohibited until the incisions are completetely cured. Patients who need them will be advised by surgeon when it is safe wearing them again.

Patients who undergo a blepharoplasty may watch TV and are able to read after two or three days. Patients may go to work in three days or a week after the operation. The scars may however still be visible but one can use makeup to cover them.

Scars are usually well hidden and normally fade in time. Blepharoplasty may leave patients with bruises or swelling on their faces and sometimes patients become depressed from this reason. These are some of the side effects of surgery, which are completely normal and which disappear in few weeks, after a complete healing.

 

Surgery Schedule (require at least 5 days after surgery in Bangkok)

  • Day 1 - Consultation and/or surgery at the same time
  • Day 2 - Surgery (if require for the next appointment)
  • Day 3 to day 5 - Recovery, rests, less reading and watching TV, computer 
  • Day 6 - Stitches will be removed
  • Day 6 - After removing stitches, you may return to work 
  • Swelling and bruising should be expected for up to two - four weeks, in some cases bruising and swelling may be evident for up to one month.
  • Normal work can be resumed 3 to 5 days after procedure (desk jobs).
  • Vigorous activity should be limited for 3 weeks, including jogging, bending, sex, or any activity that increases your blood pressure.
  • Within three months, minor swelling and bruising can usually be hidden.

For local’s patient – You may resume to work after a few days but must avoid heavy lifting object over the head or fast movement during 4 weeks after surgery date. Stitches are remove after five days surgery date.

For international patient – Please plan to be in Bangkok at least 9 days. Stitches will remove day 5 after surgery date. After departure from Thailand, you may resume to work within a few days but must avoid heavy lifting object over the head or fast movement during 4 weeks after surgery date.

◊ Any bruising and swelling will usually dissipate within 2 - 3 months after upper and lower eyelid surgery.

  • Patients may notice that their eyes tire easily for the first several weeks of the recovery period; frequent naps are recommended
