This schedule allows enough time for safe recovery and proper post-operative care before returning home. Our team will guide you through each step to ensure a comfortable, smooth, and worry-free experience throughout your stay in Thailand.
A buccal fat removal surgery requires an incision on the inside of the mouth on the inner portion of your cheek. Occasionally, the buccal fat pad may be removed during a facelift and not necessitate an incision inside the mouth.
Sutures close the incisions inside your mouth. Typically, these sutures are absorbable, but each plastic surgeon performs the surgery differently. Be sure to avoid playing with the sutures with your tongue until cleared by the surgeon.
Following buccal fat removal surgery, you may be instructed to stay on a liquid diet for several days or longer. Our surgeon may instruct you on special mouth rinses to reduce the risk of infection. Healing will continue for several weeks as swelling decreases. Continue to follow our surgeon's instructions and attend follow-up visits as scheduled.
The results of buccal fat removal surgery may be initially obscured by swelling. It may take several months for you to see the final results, as your cheeks gradually contour to their new appearance. The cheeks should appear less full or chubby in postop results.
Although good results are expected, there is no guarantee. In some situations, it may not be possible to achieve optimal results with a single surgical procedure and another surgery may be necessary.
Most local patients can return to work within a few days after surgery. However, it is important to avoid heavy lifting above the head and sudden or fast movements for 4 weeks following the procedure.
Stitches are usually removed five days after surgery.
We recommend that international patients plan to stay in Bangkok for at least 7 days to allow time for recovery and follow-up visits.
Stitches are removed on Day 5 after the surgery date. After returning home, you may resume work within a few days, but you should continue to avoid lifting heavy objects over your head and vigorous movements for about 4 weeks after surgery.
Most patients find that recovery after a buccal fat removal surgery is smooth and manageable with proper care. Below is a general guideline to help you understand what to expect:
