Cheek augmentation or Malar augmentation is a cosmetic surgical procedure that is intended to emphasize the cheeks on a person’s face. To augment the cheeks, the surgeon will place implants over the cheekbone.

Once you know your planning date for surgery. Here is the next step:

surgical details:

  • Inform us about any allergies, any serious medical condition(s), and all medications you are 
    taking (both prescription and non-prescription). 
  • No Aspirin 2 days before surgery.
  • Stop vitamin E Oil 1 day before surgery.
  • Stop smoking 2 days and a month after surgery.
  • Tell doctor if you have any serious medical condition(s). 
  • Stop meal and water starting from midnight before surgery.
  • Plan to be in Thailand at least 5-7 days after surgery.

The surgeon will usually make an incision in the upper mouth near the top of the gum line and slide the implants into place. Another method is to make an external incision near the eye.

The technique incision, implants will be discuss during consultation by Dr.Preecha Tiewtranon MD, Dr.Burin Wangjiraniran MD FRCST and Dr.Sutin Khobunsongserm MD all are Board of Plastic & Reconstructive surgery.

After surgery, pain that is easily controlled by medication usually will subside in a day or two.  If dressings have been applied, they will be replaced by a surgical bra in a few days.  Sutures will be removed within a week of surgery. 

Although the surgeon has made every effort to keep scars as inconspicuous as possible, they are the inevitable result of surgery.  Minimal swelling and discoloration of the cheeks will disappear rapidly.

Healing process, some degree of firmness may occur for weeks or even months following surgery.  In some instances, the surgeon may provide medication to promote faster healing process.   

The decision on when to return to work and normal activities depends on how fast you heal and how you fee. To permit proper healing, you should avoid over activity and refrain from overhead lifting.

Recovery cheek augmentation surgery Timelines. 

  • Removing incisions day 7 after surgery
  • No heavy exercise 4 weeks after surgery
  • Scars are usually well hidden and normally fade in time (inside mouth)
  • Swelling and bruising can be minimized possible during the first few weeks of recovery

For local’s patient - You may resume to work after a few days but must avoid heavy lifting object over the head or fast movement during 4-8 weeks after surgery date.

For international patient - Please plan to be in Bangkok at least 9 days. Stitches will remove day 7 after surgery date. After departure from Thailand, you may resume to work within a few days but must avoid heavy lifting object over the head or fast movement during 4 weeks after surgery date.

◊ Any bruising and swelling will usually dissipate within 2 - 3 months after cheek implants.

Treatment after surgery
during the first 7 days

Normal work can be resumed 5 days after a procedure (desk job). You should be able to shower and wash your hair 2 days after the bandages come off. However, vigorous activity should be limited for two weeks including jogging, or any activity that increases your blood pressure.

Most of the visible signs of Cheek augmentation surgery should disappear within a few weeks and minor swelling and bruising can usually be hidden. Do not worry if you feel a bit tired and let down at first, as your body heals itself and you begin to look better, you will feel better as well.

The doctor is also given specific instructions on how to care for the surgical site, medications to apply or take orally, specific concerns to look for and when to follow up with your surgeon.

If using credit cards (VISA/Master card), the hospital will charged 3% for international transaction fee. This is only for surgery fees. Hotels are not charged for international transaction fee. An extra charged for HIV is 50% from total cost.
