What is Double Eyelid Surgery?
Double eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure designed to create a visible crease in the upper eyelid. Many individuals of Asian descent are born with a “single eyelid” (an upper eyelid without a crease). The goal of double eyelid surgery is to create a natural-looking upper eyelid fold through a relatively quick and straightforward procedure. This surgery is generally recommended for individuals over 18 years old.
Who Typically Needs Double Eyelid Surgery?
Statistics show that approximately 65% of Asians– including people from Thailand, China, Korea, Singapore, and Vietnam – well as some Caucasians, are born without an upper eyelid crease. Those with single eyelids often have thicker skin or larger fat deposits in the upper eyelid. Double eyelid surgery can create a crease, resulting in larger, more symmetrical, and aesthetically balanced eyes.
The height of the new eyelid crease, measured from the upper lash line, is customized based on the patient’s preferences and natural anatomy. In some cases, removal of excess fat or skin may also be necessary to achieve optimal results. These decisions are finalized during a detailed consultation with the surgeon.

All surgery carries risks but can minimize by closely follow your surgeon’s advice on follow up care during the healing process. Some patients who have an active skin infection including cold sores. To be preparation double eyelid surgery.
On the day before your eyelid surgery make sure that you have items stocked at home such as ice cubes or ice pack
Make sure to shower and shampoo before the procedure and to wash your eyebrows. Cosmetics should not be worn. Also, be sure that you have arranged for someone to take you to and from the clinic where your surgery will be performed.
For local’s patient – You may resume to work after a few days but must avoid heavy lifting object over the head or fast movement during 4 to 8 weeks after surgery date.
For international patient – Please plan to be in Bangkok at least six days. Stitches will remove day 5 after surgery date. You may resume to work (desk job) but avoid heavy lifting object over the head or fast movement during 4 weeks after surgery date.
◊ Any bruising and swelling will usually dissipate within 2 to 3 months after double eyelid surgery.
Things should bring from home or after surgery.
Double eyelid surgery is usually takes about 60 - 80 minutes and performed at the Preecha Aesthetic Institute under Local Anesthesia (day surgery).
The recovery process after double eyelid surgery may take up to a few weeks. Patients will receive instruction for during the home care.
The first two days doctor recommend keeping iced eye pack on the eyes to reduce bruising and swelling. Patients are recommended to keep their head higher than the body while sleeping as this will accelerate the recovery process.
The third day after surgery, patients are advised to keep lukewarm eye pads for comfort and wearing dark glasses for at least one week is also recommended to prevent irritation that may be caused by the wind and sun exposure.
Wearing contact lenses is prohibited until the incisions are completetely cured. Patients who need them will be advised by surgeon when it is safe wearing them again.
Patients who undergo double eyelids may watch TV and able to read after two or three days. Patients may go to work in three days or a week after the operation. The scars may however still be visible but one can use makeup to cover them.
Scars are usually well hidden and normally fade in time, however incision may leave patients with bruises or swelling on their faces and sometimes patients become depressed from this reason. These are some of the side effects of surgery, which are completely normal and which disappear in few weeks, after a complete healing.

A: The skin of the eyelid is the thinnest on the human body. The darkness that can appear under the eyes is typically caused by blood circulation underneath the skin. This condition can be exacerbated by exhaustion, illness, poor nutrition, irritation, and other factors.
A: The ideal type of physician for double eyelid surgery is by board plastic surgeon. This type of doctor is specially trained in plastic surgery of the eyes and surrounding structures of the face. General cosmetic surgeons do not undergo such specialized training in plastic surgery of the eyes.
A: Patients can typically return to their normal daily routines about five to seven days (desk job, light work) following double eyelid procedure. During recovery, the patient must keep his or her head elevated for the first few days. Medication can help with any pain or soreness. Within a week after the eyelid surgery, the stitches are removed.
